Refuge of Light has 3 main programs from our mission statement:
REFUGE SAFE HOME (HOLISTIC CARE) Our specialized residential safe home is for female youth 18-25 years of age who have been sexually exploited. This is a place where the girls are safe and loved and can be guided towards a path of healing and restoration. (Read more below) BRAVE GIRL/BRAVE HEART & TRAFFICK SOLUTIONS MENTORING PROGRAMS (ADVOCACY) ‘BraveGirl’ and ‘BraveHeart’ non-residential mentoring programs are for young girls and boys who are at a high risk for sex trafficking in East Texas. ‘Traffick Solutions’ include educational information on the dangers of online predators for school aged youth and ‘TrueWoman’ non-mentoring program for homeless or at-risk females 18 years or older. It is also a required class for all volunteers and employees. (Read more below)
Refuge of Light is a faith-based organization committed to providing a safe space for young females aging out of the foster care system. The home can house up to 6 residents in a shared housing setting. Each bedroom has a private bath and keyed locking door. The program is designed to serve female youth with a history of, or who are at risk of becoming victims of commercial sexual exploitation.
The goal of this trauma-informed program is to promote complete independence while providing a strong support system along the way. Refuge of Light seeks to give each resident hope for a brilliant and successful future! Please continue to pray as we minister and walk alongside the girls in the safe home.

Refuge of Light offers mentoring programs for girls and boys each week called ‘BraveGirl’ and ‘BraveHeart’. These high-risk girls and boys are in need of the love of Christ, Biblical truth and activities that encourage and draw them to a loving Father.
What we do…
Our non-residential mentoring programs involve working with high-risk girls and boys who have experienced the disruption of removal from their homes or who are experiencing the trauma of sexual, mental and/or physical abuse. Refuge of Light sees the importance of identifying potential trafficking victims, with the largest number of trafficking victims falling into this demographic; kids who live on the fringes and come from dysfunctional homes.
BraveGirl/BraveHeart programs offer Bible study, devotionals, testimonials, prayer time, games & snacks with youth in the Smith County Juvenile Detention Center. Our TrueWoman non-residential program offers mentoring and restorative wrap around services such as life skills, document recovery, trauma informed counseling, medical care, GED classes & housing to homeless or at risk females 18 & older who are not willing or able to enter our residential program for whatever reason. Please contact us to learn more about our programs.
*BraveGirl – mentoring program for girls in detention

*BraveWoman – residential program for safe home survivors rebuilding their lives

*TrueWoman – restored women living independently
*LittleLights – the babies of those living in the safe home
The verse that emulates our efforts is Psalm 31:24 –“Be strong and take heart, all you who hope in the Lord.”
~Research shows those who are at the greatest risk of being trafficked are vulnerable youth like the ones in our detention centers and homeless youth who aged out of foster care.
